Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, although I'm not sure I thought it would happen this early in the month. Still, I can't say I'm surprised that it has. As of yesterday, I've fallen behind the daily par. Really, though, I only missed the 16,667-word mark by 660 words, so I'm not worried. I just felt like acting dramatic about it for a moment. It's the end of the year and I'm a senior in college--I knew there would be a few days I just couldn't keep up. The important thing to do is keep moving forward, and that is exactly what I plan to do. In fact, it's going to be even easier than I thought it would be.
Remember that word-count-progress-bar thing I mentioned in my first post? Probably not, but that's okay. Well, NaNoWriMo has this handy-dandy feature that calculates, based on your current word count, how many words you need to write per day in order to reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30th. It's continually updated (even while you're writing) so that if you, say, fall behind by day 10 you are still provided with a reasonable daily word goal to finish on time. Since I'm not far behind, my recommended daily word count only increased to around 1,750 words per day, which isn't too far off from the original count of 1,667. I love this feature and find it incredibly motivating because I know that there are days when I'll be able to write more than I can on others. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that I find a lot about NaNoWriMo that I find motivating, which is, in my opinion, fantastic. Even though I'm majoring in writing and I absolutely love to write, I often find it difficult to find the drive to start writing. But with NaNoWriMo I've looked forward to writing almost every day (because really, we all have those days when we feel like doing nothing at all). Between the encouraging daily word count calculator, the writing buddies system, and the weekly pep talks by written by published authors *insert squeal here* I've never felt so encouraged to write daily, and to write the story I want to tell.
