What Is A Sonder, Anyway?
sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk. Sonder is the invention of John Koenig, creator of The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. The sole purpose of The Dictionary is to ascribe words to strange but universal feelings that have none. One day the word caught my eye and I needed to know what it meant. I had never seen it before, yet it beckoned like an old friend just waiting to be recognized. Sonder. What a perfect sound. The word slides off the tongue like silver but carries the weight of the world in meaning. The name of this blog and the purpose it serves are a sort of tribute to John Koenig and his beautiful use of language to describe what others cannot.

So, Why Write A Blog?
As testimony to my fascination with quotidian events, this blog aims to celebrate the happenings of everyday life and everyday people. As both an artist and aspiring writer, I become the perfect stereotypical observer of café goers and bus riders. My goal is to capture as many of life's small moments as I can and to share my appreciation of them with the world.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. |
