I'm home! It's finally Thanksgiving break, and I just got home yesterday afternoon to enjoy the rest of the week with my family before being plunged back into course work and preparation for finals. We know what that means: more time for writing! Okay, so that's what I hope will happen this week, but it's difficult to focus on writing 2,000 words a day when you haven't been home since mid-August and there's baking to be done. And I loooove baking. I've made a tradition of baking a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, even though not everyone in my family likes pumpkin pie. But come on. It's pumpkin pie! I'm really not sure what's not to love about.
Anyway, I don't get a whole week off from break like most college students to, do the next few days are pretty packed with activities my family and I want to do. And I'm sort of worried that I'll only fall further behind this week in my word count when this is really the only time I have to catch up. I have a long way to go before I reach par once more, but I still haven't fallen that far behind. I can still "win" NaNoWriMo if I stay on top of my writing. So that's my plan. Usually I sit down for several hours and write the entire daily word count at once, but I think this week calls for some major time management. Today, for example, I've broken down my 2,000 word goal into chunks of 500 words, and I've already written the first chunk. Woohoo! I actually feel sort of productive doing it this way, although I'm not sure I'll be able to keep this system up all week. Sunday worries me the most, since I'll be returning to school and am not sure when (or if) I'll have time to write. But I'm trying not to think too hard about it. The end of NaNoWriMo is approaching much faster than it has any business doing, but I'm doing my best to go with the flow. And who knows? Maybe this will be the week I finally reach par, and the rest of the month will be smooth sailing.
