The first week of NaNoWriMo is already behind us, and the second week of frenzied writing is just beginning. So far so good: it may only be day seven, but I've managed to make par every day so far. I'm not going to lie, I didn't expect to stay on track for so long, so I'm pretty excited!

As you can probably tell from my last post, I'm very excited to be participating in NaNoWriMo again. It's been nearly an entire year since my first unsuccessful attempt, but I've come prepared this time with the magic of plot! Plot is kind of important, and I lacked a lot of it last time. But, surprisingly and magically, everything seems to be coming together and I really feel as though I can "win" it this year!
Finally! It's that time of year again, when hobbyists and diehards alike come together for a full month of writing, writing, and more writing. I've been waiting all year for NaNoWriMo to begin, determined to complete the month-long challenge after last year's first (and unsuccessful) attempt.
But what exactly is NaNoWriMo? So, I finished Carry On, by Rainbow Rowell and finally wrote my first book review! I'm probably more excited about this than anyone else is, but I've been wanting to write a review for a while (and wanting to read this book since the summer), so I think I'm justified for being pretty pumped about it.
Anyway, examination aside, I loved this book. Rowell managed to pack a lot of my favorite elements of fantasy novels into one, and I even enjoyed (for the most part) the romance she weaved into the story. I ended up giving this book a 4-star rating on Goodreads because I simply had fun reading it. But now that I've given the novel my impulse rating, it's time to break down what I thought about Carry On. Warning: spoilers ahead! Well, I guess the title of this post covers most of what I want to say, but I'm going to say it anyway: I've been curious about the world of book reviews for a while now, and I want to write my own! I'm not talking about those official book reviews you find in the New York Times (or wherever you go to read up on the latest bestsellers), but ones that the average reader writes. Think Goodreads, and personal blogs. Fun, personal, casual book reviews that people write simply because they love reading. Those are the kinds that I love reading, and the ones I've been wanting to write.
Oh, this blog. What ever am I to do with it?
I first published this website about two and a half years ago, and although it has been retooled to serve somewhat as my online portfolio since then, the way I've dealt with this blog has always bothered me. Apart from my sporadic and sparce interactions with it, one problem keeps gnawing at me: what is my focus? |
